Phu Quoc Forever
We left Ho Chi Minh City bound for the south Mekong Delta.
We took a bus to a small town named Can Tho, and stopped a night on the way south. From there, it was another bus and then a 3 hour boat ride to the Island of Phu Quoc. One of the few islands in Vietnam, it is actually in the Gulf of Thailand, and closer to Cambodia than Vietnam.
Upon our arrival, we were greeted by a calm ocean, flat beachfront, and a cozy bungalow with our name on it. It was heaven, a lovely realizing beach and the softest warmest bathtub water you can imagine.
What was once a secret paradise, was discovered about 30 years ago by the Russians who made it their go to beach vacation spot. This lead to big development and an airport, but unlike some other beach towns, it still maintains it culture and you can still get a bowl of noodle for $1 if you look hard enough.
After the first 3 days, we knew we were not ready to say good bye, so we added another 4 days to our stay, and bought a pool float. We spent days lazing in the sun, swimming, eating seafood and exploring the island.
We rented a motor bike and took a trek to the other side of the island that boasted another beautiful sand sand beach, and totally delivered.
Also we ate some snails!!
And Just like that, a month in Vietnam has gone bye. Neither of us were ready to go, or even felt as if we had seen everything in this enormous and diverse country. Leaving Phu Qouc came with a heaviness, realizing not only are we departing a country we dearly loved and connected with, but we are also at the 1/2 way mark of this trip... starting to think of the future and the days ahead. We have many more places to see, but for now, We heart Vietnam.
