Fun in Fukuoka

We finally arrived at out last stop in Japan.  Fukuoka.  We have come here to see SUMO.

You may ask why? but how much do you really know about Sumo? Did you know for instance the origins? It was started around the year 700 and began as a prayer for a bountiful rice crop.

Did you know that every movement, ever detail of each match is a studied and specific action.  Even down to the hairstyle- on closer inspection, the bun is molded to the top of the head to resemble a ginkgo leaf.  What appears to be a brut force, wrestling match, is in fact a delicate prayer seeped in tradition.  But if we've learned anything from Japan, it's that nothing is done without purpose.

The city of Fukuouka was a blast.  Very young and up and coming, with great energy. Lots of small streets lined with bars and restaurants and even one that reminded me of home :)

it had a great night life and guess what- its OWN style of ramen.  After almost 2 weeks of Japan, I have found my favorite ramen- and would you believe it- finally finished a bowl.

Japan has been an amazing experience.  To get to see a glimps of this intricate culture and its beautiful traditional.  As much as we have seen, there is still so much we missed.  I am so grateful for each day we got to spend here, and am excited for the next adventure!

Korea here we come!
